In the early days Dumfries Cricket Club played matches at Mildamhead, but a railway development brought about a move to the present ground at Nunholm in 1881. Nunholm was bought by Dumfries Cricket Club in 1897.

Over the years the ground has changed and been improved considerably thanks to the contributions of many individuals. A new clubhouse was opened in 1977, and now incorporates squash courts, gym, bar lounge and the usual changing rooms and facilities. The quality of the playing surface was enhanced by the use of a heavy roller.

In the past few years, significant progress has been made through the building of a new scorebox, and modernisation of sightscreens, covers and artificial pitch. Dumfries Cricket Club would like to thank Awards for All and Nithsdale District Council in supporting several of the ground improvement projects.

In 2006 the Scottish Cricket Union presented the Bill Dennis Trophy for the Amateur Groundsman of the Year to Dumfries Cricket Club – Ground Convener David Davidson and Club Groundsman Raymond Murray receiving the award. This reinforced the thoughts of so many who have complimented the club on the standard of the ground.

In 2007 Dumfries Cricket Club has exciting plans to build a new machinery storage building and an all-weather, three-lane practice facility.

Progressing through the Western Union Divisions Dumfries Cricket Club earned promotion to the Scottish National Leagues in 2006, by claiming the title of Western Union Division 1 Champions 2005. Another triumph during this period was winning the Scottish Cricket Union Trophy in 1997. Following their success in achieving runners-up position in their inaugural season in Scottish National League Division 2, Dumfries Cricket Club is looking to go one better in 2007.
