Youth Development Dumfries Cricket Club considers youth development to be key for the future. The junior section of both boys and girls benefits from regular coaching sessions, held by some of Dumfries Cricket Club’s ECB qualified coaches and participate in matches against other clubs in various age groups. The club has produced many of it's current players from it's junior programme and the club junior coaching. ![]() Dumfries Cricket Club is a TOPClub (Level 3, Bronze) accreditated club for it's youth development programme. The TOPClub programme is run by Cricket Scotland and is the development and accreditation programme for junior cricket in Scotland. It provides accreditation on key aspects of a club's procedures and policies for the development of junior cricketers including a child friendly environment, equal opportunity, child protection and coaching qualifications. ![]() Dumfries Cricket Club is also an accredited Dumfries and Galloway Sports Club by the D&G Council. Support for youth development at the club is provided by sponsors Annandale Insurance and Coatbridge Cold Store Construction, and from the DHL UK Foundation, Nithsdale Sports Council, and the D&G Council Leisure and Sports department. The club's current youth development co-ordinator is Trefor Williams and the Youth Convenor is the club Chairman, Rory Fergusson. 2009 Programme The club has a thriving junior section and has a busy schedule for the 2009 season. The junior sessions on Monday evenings start on the 20th April and on subsequent Mondays throughout the season. These sessions are open to Dumfries Sports Club members and non-members, and aimed at boys and girls. Basic skills coaching will be provided for new starters whilst more experienced players will be given key technical skills training. However the emphasis is on fun and participation. Monday night is junior night. 18:15-20:00 - Juniors aged 8 to 14 (Cost is £2 per session or £25 for the season with a £10 reduction for Members of Dumfries Sports Club and siblings) Cricket equipment is provided so all that is required are some warm clothes (just in case), some trainers and perhaps something to drink. 16:15-18:00 - Youth players from age 14/15 upwards For this age group there is also training prior to the Colts midweek fixtures. Matches Under 10 kwik cricket festivals, local and national Under 11 and Under 13 local leagues Strong representation in the Dumfries and Galloway Under 13 and 15 teams that each compete in the regional championships against other regions from the West of Scotland. The older players graduate to play for the Midweek and Sunday teams and many teenagers play for the club's senior sides. Players from the club have also gone on to be selected for their District and Scotland sides at age group levels, including having the experience of touring abroad as a result.
