Dumfries CC Gateway

Welcome to the Dumfries CC Gateway for your online shopping and for your web searches. Please pass on this web address to friends, family and businesses who might be inclined to search and shop through the Gateway.

Shopping

There are a choice of different shopping avenues below that you can follow to shop on the web. Each option helps the club since buying goods or services means money is made by the club.

Importantly there is no difference in the online price offered by the retailer by doing this and in each case you are dealing with the retailer direct. In some cases if you look for the discounts available you may save money off your purchase price.

Searching

You can also search the web and raise funds for the club at the same time. Effectively each search raises about a penny. It doesn't sound much but if used as part of your normal use of the web this is perhaps the most effective fundraising mechanism. So please make the page below a favourite and make a habit of searching using it.

Questions on Shopping

What is the catch?

If you are wondering where the funds directed to the club come from then they are effectively from the advertising and marketing budgets of the retailers and are not added to your purchase price. This is part of the huge advertising spend now on the internet. Companies are keen to attract customers and this is another way to do this and to also assist community organisations and charities.

Exactly how does the club benefit?

Basically the club gets a contribution from the retailer for each purchase. This may be a percentage of the purchase price, perhaps with a limit, or may be a fixed sum. Note that there may be the occasional condition to merit a club contribution e.g. one online supermarket, not surprisingly, gives a first-time only contribution for online grocery purchases. You will see the contribution, and any conditions, associated with your chosen retailer.

Who am I buying from?

Have a look and you will be surprised at the retailers you can access. Major online retailers such as Amazon, and Expedia are available and also high street names such as M&S and Tesco. There are well over 500 retailers available.

What can I buy?

Well, for example: books, sports equipment, DVDs, clothes, furniture, flowers, flights, travel, holidays, wine, toys, computers, electrical goods, mobile phones and stuff for your pet.

You can look for services such as finding utility suppliers for electricity, gas, broadband, phone and also insurance services for travel, home etc.

Finally but not least you don't need to buy anything, for example signing on to a service like an online auction service can provide a contribution to the club.

How does it work?

It works by you starting your online shopping at one of the shopping options presented above. Then the fact that you arrive at a retailer via this route is recognised at the retailer's website. Because of this when you make a purchase the retailer knows that a contribution is to be made and, in turn, that arrives at the club.

What do I need to do?

Such a mechanism requires your arrival at a retailer's website to be tracked and needs third-party cookies to be enabled by your web browser. This is probably already the case. Each of the above sites provide specific details if you need to check this e.g.

Why is there more than one shopping option?

This should broaden the number of retailers available to you. You can also find the shopping option that you find easiest to use. Last but not least you can determine the best contribution to the club for your intended purchase.

What if I have a purchase problem?

You are dealing with the retailer direct and they are your point of contact. If you have to return any goods then the contribution to the club will simply be reversed.

Where is the money going?

The funds raised help us maintain our investment in our facilities, ground, equipment and coaching for our youth development.

How can I maximise the benefit to the club?

Basically by having the Gateway in mind as the first port of call when searching and shopping online and by spreading the word to others who might be amenable to helping the club e.g. businesses for business purchases.

You can also look to raise funds 'for free' since some retailers will make donations just for switching to their service, participating in free trials or for simply registering on their site.

Look for the best contribution to the club for your purchase. The commision varies from retailer to retailer and occasionally can be as much as 15%. There can also be significant fundraising where some products, such as credit cards, insurance, broadband, phone, sky package, etc offer a set amount which can be £50 or more. So do investigate and some already planned purchase may apply.

If this fundraising approach is of interest to other clubs, schools and organisations then the club can also benefit by referring new causes. So let the club know.

Questions on Searching

How does merely searching the web benefit the club?

Again this is part of advertising on the web. Advertising sponsors are keen for you to see their links when you search. So they are paying for the privilege and the club benefits by about a penny for each search made. This does not sound much but will mount up if used over the course of year.

Who is behind the searching?

The "easysearch" searches are powered by Yahoo!, the world's second largest search engine.
