From the Cricket Scotland site, www.cricketscotland.com "The preliminary regional competitions of the Murgitroyd 20/20 Cup are nearing their conclusions around Scotland, leading to the national semi-finals and final at Shawholm (Poloc Cricket Club) on Sunday August 3. In the east, the final of the Murgitroyd Masterton Trophy will - weather permitting - be played tomorrow (Thursday) between Carlton and Grange at Grange Loan, starting at 6pm. In the west, Greaves Clydesdale have reached the final of the Murgitroyd Rowan Cup, but await confirmation of the other finalist. The hold-up has been caused by six fruitless attempts to play a quarter-final between Rowan Cup holders Poloc and Ferguslie, each one affected by rain. The two sides will try again tomorrow, with Greenock waiting to play the winner in the semi-final at Glenpark. The Murgitroyd Caledonian Cup will be concluded on Sunday (July 13) at Strathmore. The remaining semi-final, between Stoneywood-Dyce and Dunfermline, will be played first, starting at 1pm, followed by the final against Forfarshire at 4.30pm. And in the Murgitroyd Borders 20/20 Cup, the two finalists are St Boswells and Dumfries, who are in the process of agreeing a mutually convenient date for the game. The winning clubs of all four tournaments will receive a cash prize of £600, and will progress to the national semi-finals, to be played in coloured clothing with a white ball. The overall winning club on August 3 will receive a cash prize of £1,000 from the sponsor."

The D&G under-11 matches came to an end at the weekend with a game between the two Dumfries sides. Dumfries Dynamos batted first and rattled up 117 for 5 in their allotted 16 overs. Dean Brotherston was the mainstay of the innings but was thwarted from getting his fifty by the Walker combination – that well known scenario of "how’s that Dad – that’s plumb son". Dean was well supported by Bradley Fouche initially and then by Aiden Collingwood. The Walker son, Gordon, added the wicket of Aiden to give him very good figures of 2 for 20 from his 4 overs. In reply Nunholm United were never likely to chase down the total but perhaps if Rachael Howard and Ryan Hoyle had opened the batting they might have got very close. The pair of them put on an excellent undefeated half-century partnership and Rachael in particular was quite magnificent and her 40 not out contained shots all round the wicket. Fraser Strachan was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 16 from 4 overs and was ably supported by Gavin Collingwood who bowled his 5 overs for just 12 runs.
